Kennedy Ladies

Janie, Sheila & Terri

The Kennedy Ladies – Janie, Sheila and Terri – were close and often together at informal get-togethers and formal events from the Congressional Black Caucus Gala in DC and Jackie Robinson Foundation’s Robie Awards Dinner in New York to The King Center’s Salute to Greatness Awards Gala in Atlanta every January. Since Janie was publisher of the 1980s book series, EXCEL: Excellence in Black Achievement, with 1 million in print, she was widely known and sought-after. Through her marketing consulting firm, Sykes Kennedy & Associates, Janie produced large events for the Booker T. Washington Foundation, and was called in to produce special programs such as the African American Pavilion for the 1982 World’s Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee. Her daughters would often join her for these affairs. The Kennedy Ladies also traveled together as adults to places like Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, China, South Africa, Fiji and Australia. In later years, Sheila and Terri would invite each other to events in which they were involved from Terri’s affiliation with the Social Venture Network and WIE Network conferences to Sheila’s connection with the HOPE Financial Literacy Summit and Uncommon Height Awards Gala. Both were involved in World Economic Forum events.
