We are incredibly heartbroken by Sheila’s passing and intend to honor her in various ways.  Our first step is launching this tribute website – a place to learn more about Sheila, view pictures of her life in the gallery, receive updates, share your comments, and contact the family.  If you have photos of or with Sheila that you would like to share, please reach out to us.  We will continue to add to the gallery.   Since Sheila preferred warm weather,  we will hold a celebration of life in the spring when the birds and butterflies are out to play.   Details will be provided through this website.   In May, around what would been Sheila’s 60th birthday, the family will gather in Southern California, where she lived for many years, to spread her ashes in the ocean.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Inner Dignity, the organization Sheila was in the process of co-founding with her mother, sister, and nephew. The mission is to use arts and media to empower people of color, support their mental wellbeing, and promote cross-cultural understanding.  It is inspired by her parents’ work around the world and the Inner Dignity program her mother founded in the 1960’s.  About a month before going into the hospital, Sheila gave her comments on the organization’s new website design and the online course in development.  Her insights will continue to be infused in the work we do.  Details will be released soon on how to support this initiative.

We are incredibly blessed to have had Sheila in our lives. Her light will continue to shine bright through her positive impact on the world, the memories in our hearts, and the sunshine we radiate in her honor.
